Reunion Update from Mike Greene

2nd Vice President USS Hancock CV/CVA 19 Association

Thursday, October 26, 2023

Hello fellow shipmates, by now I hope everyone is back and fully recovered from our 2023 Hancock Reunion in Sparks Nevada.  There were over 100 attendees and everyone I talked to really enjoyed the week in the Reno area.  The tours were fun and informative and shopping in Virginia City was the highlight for my wife Billie and her new silver and opal neckless and matching earrings.  The fascinating story of the Donner Party and how they became trapped in the Sierra mountains during the winter and had to resort to cannibalism to survive the winter, what a wild story of our early pioneers.  The oysters shack at the Nugget was my favorite restaurant with the fresh fish offerings and my wife liked the fried shrimp.  The chicken fried steak at Rosies was pretty good too.

I also wanted to give everyone an update on the Reunion Scholarship program we offered for the first time for members who would like to attend the reunions but lack the funds to make the trip possible.  We had 4 members who were accepted and 3 of them were able to make the trip.  It was the first time to attend the reunion for all of the scholarship winners and I can tell you for sure they really had a good time and plan to make it again in San Antonio for 2025’s reunion.  Those of you who missed the Reno reunion, don’t make that mistake again and make sure you make it to San Antonio as we are all getting older and you never know how much longer you will be able to attend.  God Bless and stay safe and keep it headed into the wind.

Sincerely,

Mike and Billie Greene
