The Official USS Hancock Reunion Information will be added as soon as the Web Tender gets the Information...
Update #1: From President Dennis Flynn... "I have the dates and where it is along with the Hotel
and the room rate. As far as any tours, Armed Forces Reunions handles all that and they will not have the
tours and dates until they work out all the available dates and then they can schedule them. That is the only way
they can set them up as some tours may not be available on the date but maybe the next day so no schedule till
they work that out and it will be much closer to the official reunion which will not take place till August of
2020 so I can't be expected to provide any more on that for awhile which is set in place within 9 or 10 months
of the reunion, so I will supply Jake the Information as I get it, and Post it to this Reunion Update Page.
Links are on the Reunions Page as well as on the Home Page Marquee. Come back often and watch for further Updates.
Dennis Flynn: "What I do have is the dates the reunion will be held in Charleston, South Carolina
at the Francis Marion Hotel and it will be held from Sunday August 30 ( which is a check in day and socializing
day many members usualy come in mid to late afternoon on the first day since check in is usually around 4:00 PM)
and the reunion will go through Thursday the 3rd of September. Jake has placed a Countdown Timer on the
Reunion Page, so you can check with that as often as you like.
"There is parking in a City owned garage next door to the hotel (about 75 feet) and the rate there
is $25.00 a day for Valet parking or $20.00 a day for self parking.
"The room rates we were able to negotiate is $ 109.00 a day which is only $ 10.00 more than it was 12
years ago at our last reunion there. I have attached a .Photo below, which shows the description of the hotel
and a short history. The web site for the hotel is at the top of the page which Link is http://www.francismarionhotel.com/ (which loads extraneously), and any member can
browse through the photos of this grand hotel.
What we are working on for tours so far is definitely a tour of the USS Hancock's Sister Ship, the USS Yorktown CV-10 at Patriots
Point there is also a Destroyer and Submarine there. The Destroyer is the USS Laffey DD-724 which was named
"The Ship That Would Not Die". She has quite a battle history at Okinawa April 16, 1945 and is well worth
looking up on the internet or reading the book The ship that would not die. There are several Plantation tours
we are looking at and of course a Dinner Harbor tour which is much better than the ones we have experienced with
actual room to dine without sitting on your partner's lap. There is a Fort Sumpter tour also."
Regarding the Mini-Reunion which will be held this Year (2019), It will be like an Instant Reply of the Mini-Reunion
As far as the Mini-Reunion That is in former President (2012-2014) Thomas "Max" Pate's hands and you
will have to contact him for that as I have no information at all other than Nashville in the fall of this year.
His contact information is Thomas "Max" PateI hope to have it for you all Soon..
