For those who don't know about this. In the Book "Wings Over Sakishima" by Fredio Samples
there is noted action taken by Hancock and Air Group 6 on March 6 1945 against targets at Sakishima Gunto's two small Islands: Miyako Jima and Ishigaki Jima. Later in this book it was discovered that these two Islands had five active Kamikaze Airfields. Task Force 58 and the British Pacific fleet tried to neutralize these Airfields for 82 days by bombing and strafing but they stayed operational. The defenders on the Islands never surrendered when the Japanese surrendered. They lasted 22 more days. The US Destroyer Farenholt DD491 took a Navy and Army surrender party from Okinawa to these islands and they took the arms from the 32,000 Japanese Army and Navy defenders. The Sakishima story has never been told until this book was published in 2010 near Seattle WA. The best way to find the book and to get more information about the book is to search its title in Google search or any search engine on a computer.

Thanks Authie :P This info is appreciated. I am owner of Hersch Pahl Books website, which was Capt Herschel Pahl's Home Page where he offered his epic book he wrote about his experiences as a member of legendary Burch O'hare's VF-6. The book "Point Option". There's only a few copies left.

It is a book every affectionado of the Pacific Naval war in WWII should have in his library. Go to http://Herschpahlbooks.com. You won't be sorry you did.
